Budget Propane Ontario has listed six tips that will help you enjoy your winter, and save money at the same time.
1. Don’t wait until the snow arrives
You never know when the cold temperatures will hit and once they do the demand for propane delivery is sure to increase. Be sure to fill your tank up early so that you are ready to turn up the heat when you need it and aren’t at the end of a long list of people waiting for deliveries.
2. Never run out
Reach out to your propane provider to set up regular deliveries so that you know you have enough propane. There is nothing worse than a close call when weather or inaccessible roads cause delivery delays.

3. Consider a generator

4. Get inspected
Ensuring your propane heating system and appliances are in good operating condition is an important step before any heating season. It will not only ensure you are safe but will also increase efficiency and put more money in your pocket.
5. Minimize drafts
Ensure the warm air stays in and the cold air out by reducing drafts. Caulking and weather-stripping windows, doors and other openings such as chimneys, fans and vents, will help ensure the money you spend trying to heat your home is used for just that.
6. Install detectors
In Ontario, homes with fuel-burning appliances are required to have a carbon monoxide detector which means, if you have any propane appliances, your home should already be equipped with a detector. If not, be sure to get one installed as soon as possible.
For additional safety, you may also want to consider a gas detector, which detects combustible gas leaks.
